Have you ever been surprised to find out that certain celebrity has a background you were totally unaware of?
For example, did you know that renowned tattoo artist - and former Jesse James lover, Kat von D, was actually born in Monterrey, Mexico?
In Hollywood, you don't necessarily need to have a Latin surname to be Hispanic - and viceversa. Some stars with Latin names don't have roots in Hispanic culture.
In other cases, there are celebrities who identify with their Latino heritage, but don't speak Spanish. What it means to be Hispanic is changing in today's America and who is Latino or Latina is often a bit of a mystery.

Hispanic isn't the only ethnicity of Central and South America. Belize was an English colony and the countries Guyana are French, Dutch and English speaking. Also, the largest South American country, Brazil, is Portuguese. And in counties such as Brazil, Chile have historically recent large influxes of immigrants from non hispanic countries such as Italy, German, Japan and China.
So there is actually a good chance that Snookie is at least part Italian.

Just 2 years ago, I didn't know much about my Native American background. I didn't know my grandma, my dad's mother, was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian and Nez Perce. But I am and proud of it. So, now when I fill out paperwork I put both Caucasian/Native American.

I believe I'm a mixture of of Spanish, Native American, and possibly Mexican. I am proud of my background not to mention my culture. Born in the U.S. but feel more Mexican than anything so I am pround to call myself a "Latina" and proud to be fully bi-lingual, yeah!!
